The name Lou Cox is synonymous with Tasmanian basketball, particularly in the State's North West.
A driver of development programs for both senior and junior competitions in the North West, Lou held the position of President of the NWBU Inc for more than 30 years.
He's a life member of the NWBU and Basketball Tasmania, and even received an Australian Sports Medal from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth in 2000.
Lou is among the latest inductees to the Tasmania JackJumpers Bloodlines Program, recognising those that have made a significant contribution to basketball and the ongoing success of the sport in Tasmania.
Lou Cox served as the regional representative on the Basketball Tasmania Council, later as a Board Member and was elected as the President of the State body for 5 years. During this period, he was instrumental in overseeing the new structure of basketball in Tasmania.
His contribution to the NWBU Inc was significant, helping to develop and oversee the highly regarded senior men’s and women’s competitions, which started in 1974 with six clubs represented and now has all eight clubs entering at junior and senior level. Lou was also involved in NBL1/SEABL teams in the region and at there was a period where the NWBU Inc held ownership of the SEABL licence for men’s and women’s teams. Lou was also involved in NBL teams from the North West coast in the past.
