Fans get dose of Jack McVeigh in new podcast
Tasmania JackJumpers fan favourite Jack McVeigh has spoken for the first time since his outstanding Olympics debut and signing an NBA contract in the club’s new podcast, Vitamins presented by St Lukes.
The JackJumpers are proud to launch the first episode of Vitamins presented by St Lukes, which is hosted by JackJumpers forward Fabijan Krslovic and superfan Adam Webster, featuring McVeigh as a fitting inaugural guest.
“Jack was the perfect guest to have on the first episode of Vitamins. He’s had a whirlwind journey over the last few months so being able to deep dive into his mindset over that period and more broadly was super interesting and I’m sure fans will be enlightened as well” former housemate and host, Krslovic said.
“I haven’t even been able to get a hold of him on the phone, so we had to get him on the podcast so we could catch up!” he laughed.
In episode one of Vitamins, presented by St Lukes, Krslovic, Webster and McVeigh discuss what has transpired over the past few months including winning the NBL Championship, as well as McVeigh’s journey through the Boomers selection camp, Australia’s Paris Olympics campaign, playing against Team USA and then securing an NBA deal with the Houston Rockets.
“The level of the warm up games was like NBL finals but then in the actual Olympic tournament is a whole other intensity. You don’t have time to think” McVeigh says.
“Lebron James played in the first ever NBA game I ever watched, and then I’m walking out on the floor to play against him… it’s just crazy. It was a mix of going through the scout and our offensive plays, and thinking how am I going to impact the game here, and then on the other hand thinking just enjoy it, you’re stepping out against arguably the best team ever assembled on a basketball court.
“And reflecting on me watching the Boomers growing up and how much I cared about the results, I don’t know if it feels real that it’s me there now” McVeigh explains.
Each insightful episode of Vitamins, presented by St Lukes, features a health and wellness-related focus theme to drive the conversation and explore the mindsets of high performing individuals.
The hour-long episode one centers around authenticity and mindfulness, themes for which McVeigh is well versed in and known for.
McVeigh, who has now relocated to Houston Texas to begin his NBA journey after securing a contract in July, details his early basketball journey and how he learnt to deal with adversity and be true to his authentic self.
“Growing up I measured myself on winning and losing, like I’d beat everyone and basically I’d win and feel good about myself. Winning was where I got gratification from but then I got to college and that way of thinking failed me, I lost more than I won and I viewed myself as a ‘loser’ and that built up and it imploded all aspects of my life” McVeigh explains.
“I had to learn to love my authentic self. And I had to change my relationship with basketball. So now I’ve learnt to accept that if I’ve done the work and gave it my best on the night and it didn’t come off, I’m ok with that” McVeigh said.
Vitamins, presented by St Lukes, is hosted by Fabijan Krslovic and Adam Webster and produced by Katelyn Davies and Jake Parker.
