“Devastating” - Sean Macdonald Injury

JackJumpers guard Sean Macdonald has re-injured his left ACL during a training session on Tuesday April 7 in Hobart.
It’s been eight months since Macdonald had surgery to repair his left ACL, after it ruptured during a Boomers game on July 31 last year.
The 25-year-old guard had progressed extremely well on his comeback trail and re-signed with the JackJumpers for another year last month.
On Tuesday, during his rehabilitation work, Macdonald twisted his knee during a controlled one on one session. Scans and clinical testing later revealed a tear in his ACL graft.
Macdonald is now consulting with medical professionals, including his surgeon, on the next steps to support his recovery.
JackJumpers General Manager of Basketball Operations Darren Smith said the club was supporting Macdonld.
“It’s devastating, there’s no other word for it,” Smith said. “Sean has done everything right in the recovery process and was on the eve of getting back in the game, so to have this happen at this point is just heart-breaking.
“The club and his teammates have wrapped their arms around him, and we’ll support him every step of the way in his recovery.”
Smith said the team was continuing to build its roster, with free agency opening later this month.
“We’re in the very early stages of selecting players, so fortunately we have time and flexibility at this point to pivot and give due consideration to the make-up of the team.”
