JackJumpers Strike Gold
The Tasmania JackJumpers have added to their bigs, signing New Zealand born 6’11” centre Ben Gold for two seasons.
The 23-year-old is fresh from playing in the US college system for the Marquette Golden Eagles and has been a regular contributor to the Tall Blacks on the international stage.
JackJumpers Coach Scott Roth said Gold had the right size, right versatility and right work ethic.
“We’re very excited to have Ben join our roster,” Roth said. “He’ll fit in very well with our entire group.
“He’s going to be an important part of the group of bigs that we’ve put together.
“But the thing I love about him most is that he has a big work rate and a big motor for a player his size, plus he’s hungry to get better.”
JackJumpers General Manager of Basketball Operations Darren Smith said Gold had been a standout in the US college system.
“We had a need to shore-up our big-stocks, and Ben is going to fill that demand,” Smith said.
“We’ve been aware of him for some time, we’re always keeping an eye on all the Aussie and Kiwi guys in college and Gold was a stand out for his size and versatility.”
Gold is currently overseas and will move to Tasmania later this year.
