Tasmanians Have Their Say on Name of New NBL Team

Pride, Titans, Warriors, Thylacines, Trailblazers, Timbers, Mavericks and even the Brewers.

These are just some of the names Tasmanians have so far nominated as the search gets underway for a name for the state’s new NBL team.

A week after the campaign was launched, the NBL has already received over 5000 names as Tasmanians rush to nbltas.com.au to lodge their suggestions.

Among other names also nominated are the Spirit, Mountaineers, Freeze, Thunder and Wild. The Devils and Tigers have continued to be very popular but are unlikely to be available due to their use by other sporting clubs and codes.

Tasmanians can lodge up to three names each and will have a chance to win season tickets and a signed jersey of the new team when it enters the Hungry Jack’s NBL for the 2021-22 season.

Hungry Jack’s NBL Owner and Executive Chairman Larry Kestelman said: “We’ve been delighted with the response so far and the range of names suggested by Tasmanians. There is clearly a passion for the new team which will be Tasmania’s own.

“The campaign still has three weeks to go and we encourage everyone to put forward their suggestions and we will then come up with a shortlist before announcing the name later this year.”

The NBL recently finalised an agreement with the Tasmanian Government to set up its 10th team in Tasmania from 2021-22. The team has hit the ground running, recently advertising the first key roles.
