Tasmania JackJumper Will Magnay is back, signing a new two-year deal that will take him to seven consecutive seasons with the club.
Magnay is the only rostered player who has been with the JackJumpers since day one, making him a bedrock of the club who is adored by Tasmanians.
Coach Scott Roth said he was “extremely happy” to have Magnay back on the side.
“It’s not too often that you get to coach a player for this many years,” Roth said.
“He’s had so many ups and downs, and he’s grown from strength to strength from every one of those moments. Looking at where he is now is really something special to me.
“He came in to the team as a young kid, just starting to find his way on and off the court.
“He became a Boomer, made the Olympics, won a championship, became Captain, and on the journey, he has really grown into a great player and leader.
“To have more time with him is just personally wonderful, and I know Tasmania will be really excited to have him back too.”
Magnay is a four-time club Defensive Player of the Year, and has the club’s all-time highest rebounds at 532, and all-time highest blocks at 150.
He’s earned the respect of the playing group too, crowned Players Player at the club’s 2023-24 MVP Awards and elected Captain in the 2025-26 season.
“It took no persuasion from the coach, Tassie is home and this team is where I want to be,” Magnay said. “It’s such a special place to live, and there is so much love and excitement for the team, you can’t beat it.”
Magnay said he was looking forward to the opportunity of securing a second championship.
“The squad we’re putting together on paper is looking strong,” he said. “We have that growth mindset, to get better every day, and ultimately, we want that opportunity to win again.”
