Teal Game raises over $50,000 for S.H.E

The donation tally from the 2022/23 JackJumpers Teal Game is more than doubled that from the inaugural edition of the game, with more than $55,000 raised for local gynaecological cancer foundation S.H.E.

Fans dug deep in the lead up to and during Sunday’s Teal Game, when the JackJumpers beat the Perth Wildcats 104-96 at MyState Bank Arena.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have raised such a significant monetary amount for S.H.E but also importantly, to raise so much awareness around gynaecological cancers and the limited signs and symptoms associated with these diseases” CEO Simon Brookhouse said.

“The JackJumpers are all about bringing the community together and supporting each other.

“It’s fantastic that we’re able to provide S.H.E with a platform to raise awareness and assist in their dream to build a purpose built wellness centre for Tasmanian cancer patients”.

JackJumpers Centre Will Magnay generously donated his game-worn and signed basketball shoes, which fetched $2750 from a charitable bidder while a signed Teal jersey live auctioned by Hank Petrusma secured a $5000 donation to S.H.E – the official charity partner of the Tasmania JackJumpers.

Almost $5000 was also raised via the virtual seats program, a new initiative for this year’s Teal Game allowing fans outside the Arena to support the appeal.

The cause holds special significance to the organisation as Tasmania JackJumpers Board Member, Scott Harris is Chair of the S.H.E. foundation, with his wife Jo currently battling Stage 4 Ovarian cancer.

“It’s just incredible and completely overwhelming to have the groundswell of support not just on game day but in the lead up and after as well” Scott Harris said.

“The money raised will go a long way in assisting the partnership between the Tasmanian Government, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, University of Tasmania and S.H.E, and helping to progress our dream of a wellness centre.

“We’re so proud to be part of the JackJumpers family and it’s been a really emotional time, but also so uplifting and special.

“We couldn’t have scripted the day better in terms of the support of the organisation and of course the JackJumpers’ win, it will be a day our family cherish forever” Harris said.

The JackJumpers partnership with S.H.E is motivated by a lack of awareness around gynaecological cancers and the need for men to be part of the conversation and breaking down any stigma.

The Teal Game will be an annual event in support of S.H.E with the hope of seeing the Wellness Centre come to fruition in the not-too-distant future.
