Star import Milton Doyle has been awarded the Tasmania JackJumpers 2022/23 Most Valuable Player at the club’s Shoot for the Stars MVP Awards at MyState Bank Arena on Saturday evening.

The award is the latest in a string of accolades for the smooth-moving Shooting Guard, who earlier this month became the first JackJumpers Player to be named in the All-NBL First Team alongside the League’s very best players.

Doyle finished with 220 votes ahead of the ‘Smiling Assassin’ Jack McVeigh, who had another impressive year.

McVeigh was runner-up on 123 votes while import Rashard Kelly, who led the count in the early part of the season, finished in third place with 97 votes.

Import Josh Magette and Development Player Sean Macdonald finished in fourth and fifth respectively.

The MVP was voted upon by the four JackJumpers coaches following each of the 32 games played in the 2022/23 Hungry Jack’s NBL regular Season and Finals.

“The MVP is a fitting acknowledgment of Milton’s consistent and impressive performances this season. He has bought into everything the JackJumpers are about and help build upon the strong cultural foundations we were able to lay in our inaugural season.

“When Scott talks about humble and hungry, Milton embodies that. He’s an elite athlete and fantastic guy, who we love having as part of this organisation and representing Tasmania. A huge congratulation to Milton and his family on a magnificent achievement and season for the JackJumpers” CEO Simon Brookhouse said.

Over 350 fans, members, partners and stakeholder gathered with Players, Coaches and Staff at MyState Bank Arena for the 2022/23 Shoot for the Stars MVP Awards on Saturday night, with the lower bowl and court transformed into a spectacular corporate venue for a fitting celebration of the JackJumpers’ NBL23 season.

Development Player Isaac White was voted by his peers to receive the ‘Players Award’ after joining the club as an injury replacement player and fully embracing the club’s values, basketball program and community.

‘Defensive Player of the Year’ was awarded to Will Magnay, who returned to his best in 2023 after a 10 month battle with a knee injury, while the ‘Coaches Award’ was awarded to Development Player Sean Macdonald who was also a finalist in the NBL’s Most Improved Awards with a breakout NBL23 campaign.

Head Sports Physiotherapist Ryan Carroll was awarded the 2023 ‘Spirit of the JackJumpers’ Award which recognises a person within the broader JackJumpers family who goes above and beyond their role to positively impact the team, brand and community.

Jack McVeigh was voted as the ‘Fan Favourite’ by the Ant Army via an online poll.
