Tasmania JackJumpers crowned 23/24 NBL Champions

The Tasmania JackJumpers are the 2023/24 Hungry Jack’s NBL Champions after a nail-biting 83-81 victory in Game 5 of the series on Friday.

In front of a sold-out crowd at John Cain Arena including a strong contingent of Tasmanian fans, the JackJumpers secured the Championship Series 3-2, making history in just the club’s third season in the League.

“We are beyond thrilled. This is the culmination of so much hard work, grit and determination from our entire team, our coaches, front office and board” CEO Christine Finnegan said.

“But nothing is achieved without the support of our wonderful corporate partners, members and fans across Tasmania and Australia, many who have been on this journey with us from the very beginning.

“We have believed we could do this from day one and we have brought together the best people and the best supporters to make dreams a reality within such a short period of time” Finnegan said.

NBL CEO Dave Stevenson dubbed the JackJumpers “the most successful expansion franchise in Australian sporting history” after the club finished runner up in the NBL22 season, in third place in the NBL23 season and now, crowned League Champions in NB24.

After a heartbreaking loss in Game 4 on Thursday which saw the title slip from their grasp, the JackJumpers went into Game 5 with their back’s against the wall in front of a sold out John Cain Arena.

In what could have been a hostile away venue, and estimated 2000 Tasmanian fans ensured their voices were heard and proved the ant army are the best fans in the NBL.

The JackJumpers embodied the true grit, resilience and tenacity of the Tasmanian people to stay in touch with a sharp shooting Melbourne, before taking control and executing perfectly in the last quarter to secure the 2 point win.

Jordon Crawford was incredibly impressive with 27 first half points, shooting at 85% before finishing with 32 points in a Footlocker Player of the Game Performance.

While fan favourite Jack McVeigh won the Larry Sengstock trophy for the MVP of the Championship Series, rounding out an outstanding year for the club’s vice-captain.

The club will thank Tasmanian fans at a free public event at MyState Bank Arena on Monday 1 April. The Thank You Tasmania Celebration is supported by the Tasmanian State Government. Ticket registrations are now exhausted for the event with over 7000 people expected to flock to MyState Bank Arena to greet the team.
