State of Play

After a hectic 4 games in 8 days schedule across Round 2 and 3, the JackJumpers have had a week to lick the wounds from the thrilling one-point loss to the Phoenix. Tasmania will now head into enemy territory to face the Kings, a side they have already had the mantle over in the early part of the season.

They take a 3-2 record to start the season and head to Qudos Bank to face a Kings outfit that is once again quickly becoming one of the NBL’s strongest teams. But the JackJumpers will take confidence from their last encounter with the Kings, less than two weeks ago, where the home side secured a crucial 8-point win over the Kings.

Sydney is the highest scoring team in the league, averaging 97.8 points per game, as well as the highest averaging team for assists with 22.2 per game.

Tasmania lead the NBL in free throw percentage, and are second in defensive rebounds.

Milton Doyle scored 21 points as he helped the Tasmania JackJumpers overcome the brilliance of the Kings.

The poise of Milton Doyle and a surge either side of halftime have boosted the Tasmania JackJumpers to a 80-72 victory over NBL defending champions the Sydney Kings, thrilling their home fans.

While Next Star Alex Toohey was superb for the Kings with 14 first-half points and returning 2021-22 MVP Jaylen Adams had 14 points in the third quarter, the JackJumpers had more consistent weapons, with Doyle leading the charge.

Doyle scored 11 of 14 consecutive points for Tasmania either side of half-time at a sold out MyState Bank Arena and the JackJumpers never trailed again despite the threat posed by Adams.

Assistant Coach Jarrad Weeks said “I think we were a little bit soft (against SEM Phoenix) so it cleaning up those things, controlling the physicality of the game and finding a bit more of our defence as a team principle. Sydney are a different beast on their floor so it’ll be a good challenge for us and we need that physicality from the outset”.

Tasmania JackJumpers: Will Magnay won’t suit up for the JackJumpers as he continues to recover from a foot injury sustained in the off season.

Sydney Kings:  Import DJ Hogg is in doubt with a shoulder injury that has kept him out of the first three rounds of the season.

Opponents on the Radar 

Ex-NBA big man Jonah Bolden, who retired in 2020 to pursue a finance career, has readjusted quickly to professional basketball, while Next Star Alex Toohey appears undaunted replacing injured import DJ Hogg.
