State of Play

Despite coming off the back of the NBL’s toughest road trip (New Zealand > Perth > Hobart), there will be no excuses for the JackJumpers as they host the Bullets for the 2^nd time this season.

The JackJumpers secured a confidence boosting win against the Wildcats in Perth and now return home to continue to build on the momentum in front of the passionate ant army.

9 games into the season, the JackJumpers aren’t looking at the wins and losses just yet, but focusing on the process and the game at hand.

Brisbane will be looking to exact revenge from a brutal encounter last time we met at MyState Bank Arena, an overtime thriller where the JackJumpers secured a 90-86 win 4 weeks ago.

The Bullets game loading is vastly different to the JackJumpers heavy schedule, having had a 6 day break following their big win over Illawarra on Monday.

Of course, they’ll be up against a JackJumpers outfit glad to be back home and a raucous Tasmanian crowd that works as the home side’s 6^th man on the court and makes MSBA the most daunting place to play in the League.

Round 2: Tasmania JackJumpers 90 def Brisbane Bullets 86   

The JackJumpers secured their first win of the season in Round 2 as they clawed back clawed back a 17-point deficit to win by 4 points.

With Brisbane's Tyler Johnson (24 points, 6/7 three-point shooting) and Tasmania's Milton Doyle (32 points, six rebounds, four assists) firing, it was a game full of drama but the JackJumpers pulled off the comeback victory.

A hot shooting Bullets built a 16-point lead in the opening half on the back of shooting 51 per cent from the floor opposed to 32 from the JackJumpers.

Taking all the momentum into the second half, the JackJumpers lockdown defence came together to allow some offensive freedom.

Tyler Johnson made a clutch three with just seconds on the clock sending the game into overtime.

Both teams traded a couple of threes apiece in OT before a drive and finish from Doyle, and then a clutch three-pointer from Rashard Kelly sealed Tasmania's first win of the season.

On top of Doyle's 32 points on 12/22 shooting with 4/11 from downtown, Jack McVeigh delivered 17 points, nine rebounds and three assists for Tasmania, Kelly 14 points and nine boards, Matt Kenyon 10 points, and Jarrad Weeks nine points and four rebounds.

Head Coach Scott Roth said “Brisbane are a force. They showed us that last time we met, and we can’t let them come out of the blocks like that again. Every game is another game to get better individually and as a group and we’re confident we can re-find some momentum in front of our home fans in Tasmania”.

Opponents on the Radar 

Nathan Sobey rocketed back into form in the Bullets’ recent win over the Hawks, knocking down his first four three-point attempts in a remarkable shooting display for his best ever quarter in the NBL. He finished with 22 points for the Rd 6 game.

Ex NBA centre Aaron Baynes is always a threatening prospect and he’s coming off his best game of the season so far in Monday night’s victory over the hawks. Baynes was an imposing force on Monday with 17 points and 14 rebounds, as he continues to build back from a career threatening spinal cord injury at the Tokyo Olympics.
