State of Play

The Round 17 clash will be the first time Tasmania and Sydney have met at MyState Bank this season, but time doesn’t heal any wounds when it comes to the Tasmanian fans relationship with Kings Coach Chase Buford. The crowd will have a short memory around Buford’s antics in NBL22 Grand Final series.

Safe to say it will be a hostile reception for the 2021/22 NBL Champions when the two former Grand Finalists meet. The teams are one a piece in two encounters at Qudos Bank Arena this season.

Sydney will be out for blood coming off two straight losses, while the JackJumpers should be high on confidence after beating top two team Cairns last Friday. And they will be eager for another top of the table scalp as the race to play offs gets very interesting.

The Tasmania JackJumpers have pulled off one of their most stunning comeback performances to dominate the fourth quarter with 26 of the game's last 30 points to beat the Sydney Kings 84-76 on Sunday.

There was precious little that separated the two teams for most of the first three quarters, until Xavier Cooks turned playmaker for the Kings and the game turned in his team's favour.

Tasmania then held Sydney to four more points in the last quarter while scoring 26 points themselves to go from 14 down to end up winning by eight in what was a standout victory in their already remarkable short history.

Milton Doyle and Jack McVeigh were the architects of the incredible 26-4 finish to the game combining for 16 of those points including three triples from McVeigh and another to Doyle who continues to put himself in the MVP discussion.

Associate Head Coach Jacob Chance said “there’s a lot of hype around it but we will be taking it as a normal game. We need to treat it like a normal game. Vasiljevic, Xavier Cooks and Derrick Walton Jr are huge threats if they get going and we’ve done our homework. They’ve locked in their play offs spot, we’re fighting for our spot so we’ll give it everything”.
