Northern Tasmania Vital to JackJumpers Success

Tasmania JackJumpers CEO Simon Brookhouse says Northern Tasmania will play a critical role in the success of the club ahead of its entry into the Hungry Jack’s NBL next year.  

Brookhouse has visited Launceston and inspected the Silverdome where it’s hoped the JackJumpers will play a minimum of two regular season games as well as preseason games.

“There is still a lot of work to be done to ensure the Silverdome will be ready to host NBL games when we enter the league for the 2021-22 season,” Brookhouse said.

“We need to ensure that the venue can cater for all fans and has adequate corporate and other facilities to bring it up to the standard required to host NBL games.

“The NBL is one of the leading basketball leagues in the world and the fan experience is a key part of this. With Government and other support we hope to be able to do this in time for our entry into the NBL.

“This is a team for all Tasmania so it’s critical we get it right. Basketball has a rich heritage in this part of the state and our aim is to also play preseason games in Devonport and Ulverstone.

Brookhouse also attended the Basketball Tasmania Under 16 and Under 18 State Championships at the Elphin Sports Centre in Launceston. “The level of talent at the State Championships was tremendous and we might have had an early look at some future JackJumpers,” he said.

“We encourage every Tasmanian to join the JackJumpers’ march into the NBL and become a Foundation Member. Membership packages will also be available for those wishing to attend games just in Launceston.”
