JackJumpers ready to raise the woof with GAP Tasmania

 The JackJumpers will be looking to hound out a win this Saturday with the help of some lovable pups, as the club partners with the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP Tasmania) for a second year. 

Several retired greyhounds and their GAP Tasmania handlers will visit the concourse at MyState Bank Arena prior to the JackJumpers Round 11 game against Cairns Taipans. 

“Greyhounds are lovable, gentle dogs who love people,” GAP Tasmania Program Manager Lianne Salerno said. 

“We’re always looking for foster carers and people who may be interested in adopting one of our dogs,” she said.

GAP Tasmania is operated and funded by Tasracing with the aim of giving permanent homes to greyhounds when they have retired from racing.

“The program is run by people passionate about greyhounds and about educating the wider community that greyhounds make wonderful pets,” Salerno said.

“We are delighted to partner with the JackJumpers again this year to promote GAP Tasmania and help find some of our greyhounds a loving home.”  

JackJumpers Development Player Isaac White is a dog-lover and is delighted to help launch the partnership. 

“I absolutely love all types of dogs so it’s cool that we can use our platform to raise awareness for GAP’s work and hopefully find some new homes for the dogs,” he said. 

“I really wish I could adopt a dog but the life of a basketballer changes so quickly, so I’ll hold off a bit longer, but one day I’d love to adopt a greyhound.”

GAP Tasmania currently has 15 greyhounds available for adoption from its GAP Adoption Centre at Mangalore.

The facility will be open for meet and greets every day until Christmas Day between 10am and 2pm.
