The alignment of Tasmania’s NBL and NBL1 pathway continues to go from strength to strength with the exciting announcement that JackJumpers Assistant Coach Jarrad Weeks will become a ‘Special Advisor’ with the Hobart Chargers in the 2024 NBL1 South Season.
“I’m thrilled to take on this role and to further connect the pathways between the state’s NBL1 teams and the professional level” Weeks said.
Weeks will assist the Chargers program and Coaching Staff in their offensive and defensive structures and supporting individual player development and team training sessions throughout the season.
“We’ve seen the talent that these pathways can foster in Jacob Richards receiving a Development Player contract this season having come through the Chargers program and we hope to further foster both Tasmanian and interstate talent through that pathway, and obviously strive for success for Tasmania year-round in both leagues.
The strengthened relationship is underpinned by a new Memorandum of Understanding between the Tasmania JackJumpers and Hobart Chargers.
“This is a great opportunity for both clubs, and the development of our coaches and athletes” JackJumpers Chief Operating Officer Darren Smith said.
“We’re excited to welcome Jarrad to the club in this capacity and continue to build a strong and successful program into the future” Chargers President Brett McKay said.
Mark Radford will continue to assist and foster talent across Tasmania’s North and North West in the NBL off season, as he has done for many years.
While he won’t have an official role with North West Tasmania Thunder, he will keep a close relationship with new coach Sam Armstrong and the playing group.
The JackJumpers will continue to support and engage with all three NBL1 clubs – Hobart Chargers, North West Thunder and Launceston Tornadoes – and provide assistance off the court as well as on.
“We’re looking at ways we can provide great experiences and products for fans around both the NBL and NBL1” Smith said.
