The Tasmania JackJumpers wish to throw their support behind the Tasmania Devils in their ongoing quest to have a stadium built so they can take their place as the 19th team in the AFL competition.
As the Devils make a compelling submission to the Project of State Significance process, JackJumpers CEO Christine Finnegan said it’s an important time for Tasmanians to show their support for the team and the project.
“We understand the very complex nature of funding such large infrastructure projects, however this stadium is paramount to the Devils participation in the AFL” Finnegan said.
“The Devils are more than just a football team. They will join us in representing the pride of Tasmania on the national sporting stage.
“It’s a big stage and it’s a big deal to earn Tassie’s place on it” she said.
Tasmania has long been ignored on the national and international sporting stage despite its many achievements and we now have the opportunity to showcase our great state to the world via the sporting landscape and the economic and social benefits of this cannot be underestimated.
“We believe the JackJumpers have proved how sport can unite communities, bring people together and bring joy, and how truly passionate and competitive the Tasmanian spirit is” Finnegan said.
“We have the opportunity to continue progress the state forward, continuing to create inspiration and aspiration for future generations. The alternative would be nothing short of devastating and stall progress and prosperity significantly” Finnegan said.
There is so much evidence to support the role sport plays in preventative health strategies at all stages of life and this should not be underestimated in relation to the Devils.
The Tasmania JackJumpers support the Devils’ submission and ask the broader JackJumpers family across the state to do the same. We look forward to working with the Devils long into the future and for Tasmania to become a sporting and entertainment powerhouse.
