Roth reveals JackJumpers mindset for Phoenix clash

Tasmania JackJumpers coach Scott Roth has promised his side will play with an aggressive and attacking mindset in Sunday’s clash with the South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Sunday’s game will mark the first action for the JackJumpers since New Year’s Day and even though Roth admits there is likely to be some rust, he has assured there won’t be a lack of effort. 

“I don’t want to make any excuses and I’ve told these guys from the beginning that we are not here to make excuses,” Roth said.

“The reality is if you’ve watched the teams that have come back from COVID, it’s been a difficult road for them, especially in their opening game of just being sluggish and behind in rhythm. 

“We are going to put our best foot forward and be aggressive and attack, but I expect there will be some rust on some guys. 

“We have to smart, manage minutes and be patient with them.

“Adding to the challenge is facing the Phoenix, who Roth called “probably the most talented team across the board”.

Despite the star-studded South East Melbourne roster, Roth says it’s on Tasmania to protect home court.

“We will take a swing at everyone that comes down here,” he said.
