Launceston - Game Day Guide

02 Mar
3 mins read

Launceston – it’s your turn! We can’t wait to make a new Nest at the Silverdome, and celebrate the NBL’s Indigenous Round as we take on the NZ Breakers.

The when and where?
Saturday 5 March
5.30pm
Silverdome, Launceston

Tell me about the NBL’s Indigenous Round?
We are very proud to celebrate Tasmanian aboriginal people and culture as part of the NBL’s Indigenous Round.
Our players will be wearing a jersey designed by palawa (Tasmanian aboriginal) artist Sharnie Read. The jersey shows rock art, found around Tassie, some dating back 14,000 years old. The cultural symbols – known as petroglyphs – are a true representation of the depth of history of belonging to our island.
The jersey includes a jack jumper on a mound. Our artist used lines and other cultural symbols to connect Tasmania’s native insect, the jack jumper, to ancient aboriginal artwork – the petroglyphs.
The jersey also features lutruwita – the word for Tasmania. We are very proud to wear this jersey on Saturday and know our fans are excited to see it too!
Sharnie Read will be attending the game with her family and will deliver a traditional Welcome at the start of the game.
At half time we will enjoy a cultural performance by Tasmanian aboriginal people, led by Dave Gough. This is a performance of clapping sticks, voice and dance.

What activities are happening pre-game?
Arrive early for plenty of activities! On the concourse our SRT Cool  Zone will include facepainting, a balloon artist, giant bubbles, and your chance to really show you’re a JackJumper fan by getting decked out in JJs temporary tattoos and green hairspray!
