JackJumpers stars Jack McVeigh and Will Magnay have been rewarded for their outstanding NBL seasons with selection in the 22-man Australian Boomers squad ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The pair join ten players from the Tokyo 2020 Bronze Medal winning team including Joe Ingles and Patty Mills in the squad, as well as international players such as Josh Giddey and Jack White along with some of the NBL’s best talent.
“We’re very pleased and proud to see Jack and Will named in the squad among the very best players in the country. It’s deserved recognition for not just this season but their improvement and dedication over recent years” JackJumpers COO Darren Smith said.
The Australian Boomers will again be under the guidance of Head Coach Brian Goorjian. The initial squad will be refined before a training camp in July, with a final 12 selected to meet the world’s best at the Olympics in late July – August 2024.
Larry Sengstock Championship MVP and club MVP Jack McVeigh was thrilled to be advised of his selection.
“It’s really special, it’s been such an incredible ride over the past few months, and this really tops it off. Now I just want to get back to work, build on the work I’ve already done and keep improving” McVeigh said.
After overcoming several injury setbacks in recent years, Will Magnay was emotional as he opened his selection letter.
“It’s been in the back of my mind for a while, so to get this is amazing. The opportunity to represent your country is something that doesn’t come around very often. Still a lot of work to do and a lot of water to go under the bridge but to make it to this squad, alongside Jack, that’s pretty cool” Magnay said.
Tasmania JackJumpers Head of High-Performance Ryan Carroll will again serve the Australian Boomers Squad as Physiotherapist.
“Ryan is one of the best high-performance professionals in the business. He has been apart of many international tournaments but to be going to an Olympics is very special and we wish him all the best for the coming months” Smith said.
The Boomers drew Group A and will face Canada and the winners from the Greece Qualifying Tournament (one of Greece, Slovenia, New Zealand, Croatia, Egypt and the Dominican Republic) and Spain Qualifying Tournament (one of Spain, Lebanon, Angola, Finland, Poland & Bahamas).
