Jack Fleming named BTas U16 Head Coach

Tasmania JackJumpers would like to congratulate Assistant Coach Jack Fleming on being appointed Head Coach of the Under 16 Men’s State Team for 2023.

Fleming will combine his commitments with the Tasmania JackJumpers with upcoming selections and training for the Under 16 Tasmanian men ahead of the 2023 Australian Junior Championships.

“We’re delighted that Jack has been appointed to the under 16 Head Coach role. He is a very competent coach with a really high basketball IQ well beyond his years” CEO Simon Brookhouse said.

27-year-old Fleming has previously been a Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the Under 16 Victoria Metro Men’s team and Head Coach of the Basketball Victoria State Development Program.

Fleming said it was an honour to be named as Head Coach in Tasmania.

“I’m really looking forward to taking the reins of the 16s boys’ team and being involved with the Basketball Tas development program. It’s so important that we lay solid foundations from a young age to help foster the development of Tassie’s emerging talent.

“The vast majority of Australian players in the NBL have come through State programs and played at AJC. Whether guys are striving to go away to college or come straight into an NBL training or Development Player spot, State teams are such an important part of their pathway to professional basketball.

“We’d love to have some of these young Tasmanian guys on the JackJumpers playing roster in the near future” Fleming said.

Fleming will be supported by Assistant Coach Rushton Upton and Development Coach Angus Kitson, with the first trials for U16, U18 and U20 men’s and women’s teams to be held later this month.

Fleming is currently in New Zealand for tonight’s Round 2 JackJumpers game against the Breakers.
