Clint Steindl announces retirement: a championship captain, a true leader, and a JackJumper for life

The Tasmania JackJumpers today pay tribute to their inaugural captain and championship leader, Clint Steindl, as he announces his retirement from professional basketball.

From the moment he stepped onto the island, Clint embodied everything it meant to be a JackJumper. A fierce competitor, a selfless leader, and the definition of a team-first player, he helped shape the identity of this club. Through every high and low, he stood tall, leading by example and setting the standard for what it means to be part of this team.

JackJumpers Head Coach Scott Roth reflected on Clint’s immense impact on and off the court:

“I have so much love and respect for Clint and his family. This journey with him has been remarkable over the last four years. He represents everything that’s great about professional sports on and off the floor, and he’s been a cornerstone of what the JackJumpers stand for. He has given his heart and soul to this team, and to say he will be missed is an understatement.

He will definitely not be forgotten from the playing group, and we look forward to what his next journey looks like—hopefully working for the JackJumpers in some capacity. He has been intricate in everything that we’ve done here from the first day that he arrived—a classic pro, a grade-A human being, a wonderful father, and a role model to all of our young players that have come through in the last four years. Roth proudly states, “we have stood shoulder to shoulder to help DEFEND THE ISLAND!”

Clint will leave an indelible mark on the JackJumpers, the NBL and basketball in Australia and we thank him for his loyal service.

Clint’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. From Mackay to Brisbane, to the Australian Institute of Sport, then across the globe to Saint Mary’s, where he honed his craft as an elite shooter. His professional career spanned multiple NBL teams, each step shaping him into the leader he became in Tasmania. But it was here, as the JackJumpers’ first-ever captain, that he cemented his legacy.

Across his incredible career, Clint played 356 NBL games, recently celebrating his 350th milestone in style in front of a passionate crowd at home court MyState Bank Arena. His contributions to the game, both on and off the court, have left an indelible mark on the league and the JackJumpers community.

His leadership wasn’t just about what he did on the court—it was how he lifted those around him, how he welcomed new players, how he made everyone feel like they belonged.

While he may be stepping away from playing, Clint Steindl will always be part of the JackJumpers family. His legacy is woven into the fabric of this club, and his influence will continue to inspire the next generation of JackJumpers.
