Boost for Jobs as Tasmanian NBL Team Gets Down to Business

Tasmania’s new NBL team has hit the ground running as it seeks to hire its first staff ahead of its entry into the Hungry Jack’s NBL in 2021-22.

Five key positions have now been advertised for the start-up club after an agreement for the 10^th team was finalised between the Tasmanian Government and the NBL last week.

The positions are:

• Chief Executive Officer
• Commercial Manager
• Operations Manager
• Membership and Community Engagement Manager
• Marketing Coordinator

Hungry Jack’s NBL Owner and Executive Chairman Larry Kestelman said: “We are excited to begin the search for the first employees of our 10th NBL team in Tasmania.

“We have already been inundated with applications for the position of CEO which shows the level of interest in the new team. The CEO and these other roles will help establish the foundations for the team ahead of its entry into the Hungry Jack’s NBL next year.

“This is Tasmania’s team and where possible we will be looking to employ locals to fill roles at the club. Tasmania is a state with a strong skills base across sport and business and we will need local expertise to build a successful franchise.

“There is much to be done over the next 12 months as Tasmania prepares to return to the NBL after a 25-year absence. This includes the $68.5 million upgrade of the Derwent Entertainment Centre, including $20 million for a community four court multisport facility.

“The team will bring new jobs and investment to the state and deliver important economic and tourism benefits for Tasmania. Basketball is a global sport and the NBL team will also showcase Tasmania on the national stage and around the world.

“We have been encouraged by the interest from corporate Australia in becoming foundation partners of the Tasmanian team. We will progress those discussions in coming months and look forward to major Tasmanian brands getting behind their team.

“Shortly we will also unveil details of a campaign asking Tasmanians to nominate their name for the new team. As the team will represent the whole state, we have decided that Tasmania must form part of the name and this will be a great chance for Tasmanians to have their say in the name that will be ultimately chosen.”
