WHERE THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WAY… FROM THE NBA TO TASMANIA!

JackJumpers signing Will Magnay is ready to make the most of his new deal and time in Tasmania. Magnay brings a taste of NBA experience with New Orleans Pelicans after becoming just the 25^th Australian to play NBA minutes earlier this year.

“My mentality is to play at the highest level I can, in the highest League I can, wherever that takes me, I’ll be happy and proud of myself at the end of the day” Magnay said.

Whilst Magnay sees his own potential to return to the NBA one day, for now Will has firmly set his sights on playing being part of a new winning culture with the Tasmania JackJumpers.

“I’m still young I’ve still got time, you know Jock [Landale] only just signed and he’s 26 so I’ve got a couple more years and I’m not overly stressed about it, I just want to get right and start playing well.

“For now that’s with Tasmania, and I’m just keen to get as many wins as possible”.

“We have a really good shot to lay a good foundation. We’re going to put the right foot forward and do everything we can to get a win”.

Concerns over a foot injury brought him back to Australia in May finishing the NBL season with the Wildcats before penning a one-year deal with the NBL’s 10^th and newest team for the 2021/22 season.

Magnay had surgery on his foot seven weeks ago and will complete his rehab with the JackJumpers’ medical and physiotherapy team.

“I’ll be ready for the season, I’ll start building in to running next week and rehab as usual. It’s all fixed now”.

The 6’9 power forward/centre will reunite with former-Wildcat teammates Clint Steindl and Jarrad Bairstow at the Tasmania JackJumpers.

“One of the better cultures I’ve been a part of is that Wildcats culture and I think if we can pull pieces of it and I think we can start to build something similar, but unique to us. We can’t just try and be Perth, we have to be Tasmania so I’m excited to start building that, and I just can’t wait for everyone to get here and get on court, and get going”.

Magnay joins Clint Steindl, Jack McVeigh and Jarred Bairstow on the ground in Tasmania, while Jarrad Weeks and Sam McDaniel are completing quarantine due to border restrictions. The remainder of the playing roster are scheduled to arrive in Tasmania by early September.
