The Tasmania JackJumpers express their deepest condolences to the family, friends, teammates and colleagues of much-loved NBL media personality and former player, Corey ‘Homicide’ Williams.
‘Homicide’ as he was affectionately known, was a larger-than-life character who positively impacted thousands of people across Australian basketball, and the world with his positive energy, outlook and spirited presence.
“Corey was so loved by so many, including many at the JackJumpers. He was such a vivacious, passionate character that was an incredible contributor to the League” CEO Christine Finnegan said.
“We know the JackJumpers held a special place in Corey’s heart, and he certainly held a special place in all of ours” Finnegan said.
46-year-old Williams received a shock colon cancer diagnosis in September 2023, which unfortunately was only found after it had progressed to its late stages.
The former League MVP fought courageously following his diagnosis, continuing his support of the NBL including attending games throughout the season and finals series, despite undergoing intense treatment.
“Homicide was a fighter, on the court and off it. He embodied such an infectious, passionate, fighting spirit to the very end, and we are beyond devastated by his passing” head Coach Scott Roth said.
“We are all better people having known him and for having been in his presence. He has been a wonderful friend to my me and my family, and his story and fight have touched us all deeply.
“His was a life well lived, and we’ll continue to honour his legacy. Our deepest condolences and all our love to his family and friends” Roth said.
“The game and the League simply won’t be the same with out him”.
