Two big ins, three outs as JackJumpers hit by injury

JackJumpers captain Clint Steindl and marquee centre Will Magnay will suit up for the Round 7 game against the New Zealand Breakers on Friday.

Following news of Steindl’s return, Magnay has also passed testing to be deemed fit for the game at Launceston Silverdome.

Despite the pairs’ long-awaited returns to the court, the JackJumpers won’t be at full strength with several players hit by injuries during the week.

Milton Doyle, Matt Kenyon and Jarrad Weeks won’t take the court on Friday after suffering leg injuries.

Doyle has sustained a minor injury to his heel and is being managed as a precaution. Early signs are positive for the agile guard, with Doyle expected to return to full practice next week.

“We gave Milton every chance to get up for the Breakers after a minor tweak, but we think it’s safer to hold him back for this game and give him the extra week to get 100% right” JackJumpers Head Sports Physio, Ryan Carroll said.

Guard Jarrad Weeks will also miss Friday night’s game with an ankle injury.

Matt Kenyon is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after injuring his calf at practice.

The JackJumpers medical staff will take a conservative approach in their recovery and ensure a thorough rehabilitation process.

“It’s unfortunate for those guys, but these things happen at all levels of sport. We knew there were going to be challenges but we’ve got some of the best medical professionals at our disposal, so they’re in good hands” Associate Head Coach Jacob Chance said.

“It’ll be a good test in the depth of the group, but we’re confident any guy can step up at any moment.

“We’ll just take it game by game, week by week” Chance said.
