Tasmania JackJumpers March Into the NBL

The Hungry Jack’s NBL’s 10th and newest club will be called the Tasmania JackJumpers.

Tasmania JackJumpers Chief Executive Simon Brookhouse said: “This is a landmark day for Tasmanian and Australian sport as we introduce the Tasmania JackJumpers.

“Synonymous with Tasmania, the JackJumpers will be proud, bold and fearless. The JackJumpers will show that you don’t need to be the biggest to be the best and to drive fear into your opponents.

“The JackJumpers logo covers all corners of the state and embodies Tasmania’s challenger spirit and passion. Our green and gold colours pay homage to Tasmania’s rich history and landscape.

“The JackJumpers are energetic, fierce and ready to attack and defend with force well beyond their size. Like Tasmania itself, the JackJumpers will be unforgettable and a team all Tasmanians can embrace.”

The unveiling of the JackJumpers follows an exhaustive search including a public campaign asking Tasmanians to nominate their favourite names. Nearly 10,000 entries were received.

Brand agency SouthSouthWest worked on the design of the JackJumpers, including its iconic logo. Its founders Andy Sargent and Jonathan Price are both Tasmanian and have worked for global brands including Nike, Google and USA Basketball.

The JackJumpers also launched their Foundation Memberships, offering fans the chance to receive the first ever merchandise and select their seat for the 2021-22 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season.

“I want to thank all Tasmanians for helping us in naming their team and I now urge them all to get on board and show their support as the JackJumpers march into the NBL for the 2021-22 season,” Brookhouse said.

Hungry Jack’s NBL Owner and Executive Chairman Larry Kestelman said: “We are very proud to welcome the Tasmania JackJumpers to the NBL.

“The JackJumpers will usher in a new era for Tasmanian sport and write a new chapter in the story of the NBL and Australian basketball as it continues to go from strength to strength.

“I’ve got no doubt they will do Tasmania proud as they represent the state on the national and international stage. We want them to inspire generations of Tasmanians to come as basketball becomes the number one sport in Tasmania.”

Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said: “Announcing the JackJumpers will give Tasmanians a name to get behind and is the next step forward in getting a team ready for next year’s season.

"Importantly the LK Group, with the support of the Tasmanian Government, has this week lodged the Planning Permit Application for the redevelopment and upgrade of the DEC which will unlock significant economic development, attract investment and have the potential to create hundreds of jobs.

"This is part of our plan to rebuild a stronger Tasmania, by creating jobs and future investment in our State while also providing opportunities for grassroots future investment in our State while also providing opportunities for grassroots pathways and player development in our state.”

Basketball Tasmania CEO Chris McCoy said: “This is a tremendously exciting day for our sport after many people were involved in bringing this to fruition. The Basketball Tasmania membership looks forward to throwing massive support behind the NBL in Tasmania and I personally look forward to working very closely with Simon and his team.

“The NBL and the JackJumpers will drive great exposure for our sport, provide an aspirational target for our young boys into the NBL along with our girls into the WNBL. Our aim is to be the number one sport in Tasmania within five years and today’s progress is another step in the exciting journey.”
