Tasmania JackJumpers captain Clint Steindl admits he still doesn't have a solid return timeline, after suffering a knee injury back in July.
Steindl injured his left knee while representing Australia in the FIBA Asia Cup last month. While he was unable to take to the court in the latter stages of the team's tournament victory, it's been well-established that he provided a strong voice and veteran leadership around the camp during the team's remarkable run.
He's back completing light training, as Tasmania embark on their pre-season camp.
“Right now [my program is] purely just walking around, a few dribbling drills and seated ball-handling, but nothing to serious. It’s going to be a process over the next month and a half to get some load management into that knee,” Steindl told The Examiner.
“It’s coming along well right now and I’m just waiting for some results, [we’ve] put a plan in place in terms of strengthening and rebuilding my knee and some of the muscles around it.
“Hopefully we can get a timeline on it soon, but I guess until next week we won’t know a lot.”
The JackJumpers struck early to sign an injury replacement player for their fearless leader, bringing in former Illawarra sharpshooter Isaac White to help steady the ship in the captain’s absence.
Steindl isn’t the only key figure currently on ice for Tasmania, with star centre Will Magnay also sidelined with a knee issue of his own.
While he may be missing in an on-court capacity for the start of the season, Steindl is looking forward to seeing what his side can produce on opening night.
“I’m upbeat and excited for the guys, They’re putting in the hard work and hopefully we get to show some of our growth when we play South East Melbourne … [but I’m] definitely going to be a long shot for opening night.”
