Simon Brookhouse Returns to Tasmania to Head New NBL Team

The Hungry Jack’s NBL is pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Brookhouse as the Chief Executive Officer of Tasmania’s new NBL team.

Brookhouse, who is currently General Manager Golf Operations for Golf Australia after seven years as CEO of Golf Victoria, has held a number of senior positions in Tasmanian and Australian basketball.

He was President of the Hobart Chargers from 1999-2002 before becoming CEO of Knox Basketball, the largest basketball association in Australia, from 2008-11. He was also Chairman of the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) from 2007-2018.

NBL Owner and Executive Chairman Larry Kestelman said: “Simon brings outstanding credentials to this important position as we prepare to launch Tasmania’s new NBL team in 2021-22.

“He has strong experience across sport and business but also understands the importance of working with government and local communities. He has lived and worked in Tasmania and is a proven leader who will help bring the community together for this exciting journey ahead.

“The Hungry Jack’s NBL has enjoyed huge growth over the past five years and is now considered one of the best leagues in the world outside the NBA.

We are delighted to welcome Tasmania as our 10th team and can’t wait to see them take to the floor.”

Brookhouse, who will start his new role next month, said: “I’m very excited about the opportunity to be part of Tasmania’s new NBL team. Tasmania has a rich sporting heritage and this is an opportunity to showcase the state on the national and international stage.

“Having been closely involved in basketball in Tasmania, I know how passionate Tasmanians are about their sport and state and we want everyone to get behind the new team and make basketball the number one sport in Tasmania.

“There’s a lot to be done between now and the team’s first game later next year including naming the new team, recruiting staff and players and completing work on the redevelopment of the Derwent Entertainment Centre.

“I look forward to working with the local community to build a team for all of Tasmania and a team all Tasmanians can be proud of.”

The NBL recently launched a campaign for Tasmanians to nominate their names for the new team. To nominate a name for the new team go to www.nbltas.com.au and be in the running to win season tickets, a signed jersey and chance to meet the team before their first game in the 2021-22 season.

Tasmanians can lodge up to three names each and entries must be submitted before midnight this Friday, August 14.
