RECENT FORM
It will be a desperate Taipans outfit travelling to Launceston on Saturday. Cairns slumped to seven straight losses on Thursday night against the Bullets, conceding 113 points to a sharp shooting Brisbane (55% FG). Despite the loss, it was a vastly improved offensive performance from the Snakes who had been averaging just 76 points a game this season but their defence again had no answers with the Bullets having an equally effective inside and outside game. Million-dollar man Jack McVeigh was announced as a gametime decision for both round 7 games following a wrist injury and suited up on Thursday and led from the front with 23 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals. He’s likely to back up against the JackJumpers, returning to play in Tasmania for the first time since the Finals MVP, Championship winning season with the club in NBL24.
Speaking of desperate, the JackJumpers will also be very eager to secure a win at their northern home after a disappointing end to the Ignite Cup against Perth on Wednesday. Rebounding will be a key focus as the team travel North for the first time this season after a 40-32 rebound count became a glaring issue. Assistant Coach Mark Radford saying it’s been a key focus over the last 24 hours “it’s a mindset thing, we’ve got to be more aggressive on the boards. It’s something we’re working through and we rectified after game 1 this season so we need to rectify it again. It’s having that physicality and the mind set to want it more, regardless of size, it’s simply who is hungrier to get that ball at the rim” he said.
Will Magnay is likely to suit up after an injury scare on Wednesday night. Magnay sat out the last quarter of the game against Perth as a precaution after some pain in his right knee. He will travel to Launceston and continue to be monitored by the High Performance team.
