Marshall right at home in Tasmania

Nick Marshall has just built a home with his partner in Hobart, he couldn’t be happier where he's living and on the court, he continues to embrace the faith Tasmania JackJumpers coach Scott Roth has in him to take on the best defensive jobs.

Marshall is now in a second season with the JackJumpers with his role continuing to soar. He went from just 17.5 minutes in 21 appearances at the Adelaide 36ers in NBL25 to 27.2 minutes in all 34 games and having 10.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists at Tasmania in NBL26.

Not only that but Roth's faith grew in him at the defensive end to be the anchor at that end of the floor for the JackJumpers and to take on the assignment on the most lethal scoring threat on the opposing team.

That has continued into NBL27 where he's up to playing 29.6 minutes a game and is producing 8.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting a supremely efficient 45 per cent from the field and 41 per cent from the outside.

First things first, Marshall was just happy by the end of last Wednesday's win against the Brisbane Bullets that the JackJumpers got through a stretch of three games in six days with two wins, and to remain in top spot at 6-2.

"To be honest it's just another game and I'm just going out there to try and do my job, and help out the team any way that I can to try and get the win," Marshall said.

"Obviously it's a big stretch of games we've just had and the legs are a bit tired, but we've got a good little break now so we'll just reset and get ready for Sydney next week."

The JackJumpers have won six of eight games so far to be on top of the NBL coming into Round 7 despite still being without key trio Majok Deng, Ben Ayre and Bryce Hamilton.

But Marshall couldn’t be happier with who he is calling teammates including new arrivals like Taran Armstrong and the returning David Johnson both for on and off court reasons.

"It's definitely fun going at it with them every day and guarding them, and getting workouts with them and also doing stuff together off the court," Marshall said.

"I really enjoy it having those guys on my team making my job easier, and then also trying to help them as well with things that I can help them with as well. It's great having those guys on the team."

Wherever Marshall has played previously in his career whether in college at Clarke University, closer to home at the Mount Gambier Pioneers, in the NZ NBL with the Wellington Saints, or in limited time at the 36ers, he always had plenty of offensive weapons.

But what Roth saw in him when he signed him to the JackJumpers ahead of NBL26 was someone with enormous defensive potential and Marshall has been more than happy to continue to grow that area of his game.

"I love it and it's obviously a different challenge every night, and we've got some great guards in the league," Marshall said.

"I enjoy it and I'm still trying to get better, I'm still making mistakes out there and I've still got some areas to clean up. But I definitely enjoy it."

While basketball is going well on the court for Marshall at the JackJumpers, he also couldn’t be happier to be calling Tasmania home with a new house with partner Lauren to show for it.

"I definitely am happy being here," Marshall said.

"I love Tasmania, we've built a house here that me and my partner have moved into now a couple of months ago, and we're loving it. The fans are amazing and it's home."
