JackJumpers Point Guard Josh Magette has suffered a suspected broken cheek bone and fractured eye socket in an incident in last night’s Round 18 game against Illawarra Hawks.

Magette did not fly home with the team on Sunday and remains in the care of JackJumpers Head Physiotherapist Ryan Carroll in Sydney.

“Unfortunately, Josh received a significant knock to his left cheek and eye area. He has a large amount of swelling, and we are treating it with the utmost precaution and at this stage he is unable to fly” Carroll said.

“He is in a fair bit of pain which we are trying to manage as best we can.

“Josh’s welfare is our highest priority and we are exploring alternative arrangements with Spirit of Tasmania and Mazda Tasmania to get him home to his family, as comfortably and safely as possible” Carroll said.

Once Magette is able to return to Tasmania in the coming days, he will be fully assessed by the club’s medical team and specialists in Hobart so a full diagnosis and recovery plan can be determined.

At this stage, it is unlikely Magette will play in the 2022/23 NBL Finals.
