The Tasmania JackJumpers wish Josh Tomasi all the very best for his future after the 21-year-old was granted a release from his 2023/24 Development Player contract.

Tomasi has decided to pursue opportunities in Europe and requested a release from his Development Player contract.

“Josh has been approached by clubs in European League after a number of great performances for his home country Malta in the Small Nations games and in the NBL1 recently” Co-CEO Jorrick Chivers.

“After much consideration, he has decided that he wishes to pursue these opportunities, which is understandable, and we wish him all the very best. We will watch his progress with keen interest.

“He’s a great kid with a bright future and we’ll welcome him back to the JackJumpers if the opportunity arises in the future” Chivers said.

Tomasi was originally selected through the JackJumpers 2022 Development Player invitational trials prior to last season and showed great potential as a force in the paint in the early stages of NBL23, however a concussion injury kept the 23-year-old off the court for much of the back half of the season.

“It was unfortunate Josh suffered that concussion during his time with us and it did take him a while to be medically cleared to play again. Speaking to him, he’s feeling really good both physically and mentally. Again, we wish him all the very best in Europe” Chivers.

The Tasmania JackJumpers are now considering multiple options as a replacement including Development Player and short-term Injury Replacement contracts for the 2023/24 NBL season.
