JackJumpers welcome three new Bloodlines members

The Tasmania JackJumpers are pleased to announce three key identities in Tasmanian basketball have been recognised for their contribution to the sport, and their achievements both locally and nationally, with inclusion in the JackJumpers ‘Bloodlines’ group.

Founded by Head Coach Scott Roth in the club’s infancy, the ‘Bloodlines’ connects the history of basketball in Tasmania with the present and future of the sport by identifying Tasmanians who have shaped the game and helped create the strong foundations upon which the JackJumpers have been built. 

Former professional player and coach, Marty Clarke, long-time coach and administrator, Odette Seabourne and Australian Boomers Physiotherapist and current JackJumpers Head of High Performance Ryan Carroll have been nominated as new members of the Bloodlines as of October 2025.

Marty Clarke

Born in Penguin, Clarke played for the Devonport Warriors in the NBL in the mid 1980s, as well as with the AIS, SEABL, and North Melbourne Giants. Clarke began his coaching career in Tasmania and led the Tasmanian Intensive Training Centre. He also served as a regional Development Manager for Basketball Tasmania. Clarke later coached the Adelaide 36ers, Saint Mary’s Gaels, and served as asistant coach for the Australian Boomers.

Clarke was most recently Technical Director at the NBA Global Academy overseeing elite player development for top Australian and International youth basketball talent, a role he had served in since 2018. He currently resides in Bangalore, India.

Clarke has been instrumental in the development of elite Australian talent, including NBA players like Andrew Bogut and Patty Mills.

“I have been an ardent advocate and supporter of Tasmanian basketball if often from afar. Hopefully I have had a positive impact in some small way and I am truly honoured to be included in this group” he said.

“I’m so happy I can watch the JackJumpers from India and can’t wait to see the women’s team in the WNBL. I have so many great friends and memories from Tassie basketball and always follow the new players progress” Clarke said.

Odette Seabourne

Odette Seabourne has been a significant figure in Tasmanian basketball, particularly in the state’s North‑West. Deeply embedded in the local basketball community, Odette has spent over 20 years coaching and mentoring players across Tasmania. Whether she’s providing strategic direction from the sidelines, fundraising, helping out in the club canteen, or organising trips to interstate tournaments, she is a constant presence her teams and association.

Seabourne is the coach of the Somerset Basketball Association and the Tasmanian Ivor Burge Men’s Team, which supports players with intellectual disabilities. Odette dedicates most of her evenings, weekends and holidays to the sport through varied volunteer roles. 

Known for her inclusive and life-skills-focused coaching style, she has helped her teams win multiple medals and supported players in reaching national representation. Her legacy is tied to her mother, who was also a coach of Ivor Burge teams and a major influence on her basketball journey.

“I am extremely humbled and honoured to be nominated to be part of this group, speechless actually which is quite unusual for me!”.

“Being involved in basketball for so many years has given me much more than I have given it and it really is a privilege to be a part of the development journeys of the players and see the joy the game brings them” she said.

Ryan Carroll

Ryan Carroll is a highly‑respected sports and exercise physiotherapist whose work in basketball has had significant impact both in Tasmania and at the national level in Australia.

A part of the Tasmania JackJumpers since the club’s inception in 2021, Carroll is the club’s Head of High Performance, playing a key role in injury prevention, rehabilitation and overall wellbeing of the playing group.

Graduating from University of Queensland and gaining a Masters of Sports Physiotherapy through La Trobe University in Melbourne, Carroll began his professional career in North West Tasmania and quickly became a renowned medical professional working with local clubs such as the Devonport Warriors and the North West Tasmania Thunder in NBL1 South, building strong grassroots connections, helping to raise standards of athlete care, rehabilitation pathways and performance support in a regional context.

He has served numerous state and national underage teams and continues be a highly sought-after part of the support staff for the national men’s basketball team, the Australia Boomers including travelling to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I’m extremely honoured and humbled to have been nominated to the Bloodlines group and be included amongst the names of some true legends of the game, some of which I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked with over the years” Carroll said.

“Basketball in Tasmania has been and continues to be a huge part of my life and has provided me with so many friendships and opportunities, both personally and professionally. I hope I’ve been able to give back even a small amount to the sport and community that has welcomed me and encouraged me on the journey. Tassie basketball is only getting stronger, and long may it continue” he said.
