JackJumpers seeking Tasmanian Aboriginal artist

The Tasmania JackJumpers are looking to engage with a Tasmanian Aboriginal artist to create a design to be used on jersey and shorts (and potentially other apparel) for the 23/24 NBL season, to be worn during Indigenous Round(s). As such, we are inviting Expressions of Interest for this project.
The NBL host Indigenous Round each season to celebrate, recognise and acknowledge Indigenous culture across Australia and New Zealand. In Tasmania, the JackJumpers use Indigenous Round to acknowledge and celebrate Tasmanian Aboriginal people and culture.
In our inaugural season, we were proud to have palawa woman Sharnie Read, design the Indigenous Round jersey and in the NBL 22/23 season, we were proud to have Auntie Judith-Rose Thomas, atrowoolyway woman from the lettermariner tribe, design our jersey.
Both jerseys proudly display “lutruwita” the palawa-kani word for “Tasmania” on the front, and we anticipate the NBL23/24 season jersey will do the same.
The Tasmania JackJumpers are now looking for our artist for next season! If this sounds like you, or someone you know, we'd love to hear from you and learn about your story and interest in the project.
It is hoped that the artwork include some or all of the following features:
- Be reflective of or incorporate Tasmanian Aboriginal culture, people, places or stories;
- Represent something meaningful to Tasmanian Aboriginal people; and
- Ensure Tasmanian Aboriginal people feel acknowledged by the JackJumpers and by the JackJumpers’ wider fan base.
Full details can be found here.
The Tasmania JackJumpers acknowledge and pay our respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal people as the traditional and original owners, and continuing custodians of this land on which we live and work today.
