Two-time NBL champion Clint Steindl has been named the Tasmania JackJumpers inaugural club captain for the 2021/22 Hungry Jack’s NBL season. Steindl was voted unanimously to be the Club’s first ever official leader by the 15-man playing group.

Veteran Point Guard Jarrad Weeks will support Steindl, as the JackJumpers Vice-Captain. The pair have already shown their leadership both on and off the court, and have earnt the respect of the entire squad as they prepare for the inaugural season, as the 10th team in the Hungry Jack’s NBL.

Head Coach Scott Roth said “I’ve known Clint for a long time and he has always been a natural leader. To have the entire group vote him as captain says a lot about his credentials and the respect the group has for him”.

“He sets the standards both on and off the court. He holds him self to high account and he holds others to the same. He knows what it takes to build a championship-winning culture and expect success” Roth said.

Steindl was the very first player to touch down in Tasmania in August and has been integral in setting strong foundations for the Tasmania JackJumpers.

“It’s truly an honour to be voted by your peers, especially being the first season and being the first captain of this team” Steindl said.

Steindl, who won two championships with Perth Wildcats, has evolved as a natural leader over his ten years in professional basketball.

“It’s about the way we hold ourselves on the court and particularly off the court. Those are the things that lay strong foundations to build on”.

“I’ve learnt from some of the best [at Perth], and I often reflect on what those guys would say. I know what it takes to get that ultimate success and I want to set those standards here and give Tasmania a team to be really proud of”.

“There will be other guys who lead in different ways, Josh Magette, he runs the floor, same as Weeksy that’ll be his role, but I’m more about work ethic, holding high standards in every part of the club” Steindl said.

Steindl and Weeks will lead the team when the Tasmania JackJumpers take on the Adelaide 36ers on Sunday at 3.00pm in Ulverstone in the Hungry Jack’s NBL Preseason Blitz. Ticket allocations for the game are exhausted. The game will be streamed live on Kayo Freebies.
