JACKJUMPERS CALL FOR URGENT PROGRESS ON HIGH PERFORMANCE CENTRE

The JackJumpers have today called on the Government to name Kingston as the location of its High Performance Centre (HPC).
In a letter sent to the Tasmanian Government, CEO Christine Finnegan advised that Kingston was the preferred site for the training centre.
“Our players currently train at Kingston and most of them live in the vicinity of that shared facility. They have all embraced the community, the schools and lifestyle that Kingston offers and given there are plenty of options there it would be remiss of me not to explore them,” Finnegan said.
“We have been very patient over the past few years while we worked through the different issues associated with Wilkinson’s Point. Unfortunately, there are still too many obstacles to that site for us to continue the conversation any further.
“It was clear that the Kingborough Council had a vision for the AFL High Performance Centre site and when this was awarded to Rosny we explored if there would be any interest in it becoming the home of the JackJumpers instead.
“We would like the Government to support our proposal so we can go about getting the JackJumpers HPC under construction,” she said.
“We hope that the relocation of the JackJumpers facility will in no way impact the community courts planned for the Glenorchy area which we agree are desperately needed to service the Glenorchy community.”
The JackJumpers’ HPC includes two courts, a gym, recovery rooms, change rooms and administration facilities. The courts would be made available for public use when not required by the JackJumpers.
“The Government committed to build a High Performance Centre a number of years ago. We have just experienced our fourth free agency period without the facilities to entice players to our program and it is my responsibility to our Head Coach Scott Roth and our basketball department to get the HPC under construction as soon as possible.
“I implore the Government to support the JackJumpers by following through with their commitment to build a High Performance Centre so that we can concentrate on continuing to Defend the Island in a proud manner both on and off the court” Finnegan said.
