JackJumpers Battle Hard But Fall to Kings in Defensive Duel

The Tasmania JackJumpers showcased their trademark grit and determination but came up short against the Sydney Kings, who secured an 88-77 victory in front of a packed Qudos Bank Arena for their Pink Hoops Game.

The game was a closely contested defensive battle through three quarters, with the JackJumpers keeping Sydney's key players under control. Milton Doyle led the JackJumpers with an impressive performance, finishing with 21 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Jordon Crawford added 17 points and four assists. Ian Hummer contributed 11 points and four boards.

Despite their strong defensive effort, Tasmania was unable to overcome critical moments where turnovers and second-chance opportunities proved costly. The Kings capitalized on the JackJumpers' 17 turnovers, converting them into 24 points, and collected 14 offensive rebounds for 15 second-chance points.

From a shooting efficiency standpoint, the JackJumpers outperformed the Kings, converting 46% of their field-goal attempts compared to Sydney's 39%. However, the Kings’ dominance at the free-throw line proved decisive, as they made 29 of 36 attempts compared to the JackJumpers' 11 of 14.

Head Coach Scott Roth reflected on the team’s performance post-game, commending the group’s effort and adherence to the game plan:
"Our fight is always really, really good. The guys followed the game plan wonderfully, but there were just a few self-inflicted moments – a couple of bad turnovers, a missed box out – that made the difference. I'm really proud of the group for sticking together."

The JackJumpers' defense held the Kings to a grinding contest early, with Sydney narrowly leading 16-15 at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, the Kings were up 38-34, buoyed by points off turnovers. Tasmania briefly surged ahead in the third quarter, inspired by Jordon Crawford during a 13-3 run, but Sydney regained a narrow lead heading into the final term.

Kouat Noi was the standout performer for the Kings, posting a career-high 32 points, including an exceptional 18/19 from the free-throw line. Head Coach Roth acknowledged Noi's impact:
"We filed him, I'm sure we did. But 29 points from the free-throw line, that’s a lot to overcome. Credit to him, he made the most of those opportunities."

Even in the closing moments, when Ian Hummer's turnover led to a half-court shot attempt, the JackJumpers' camaraderie shone. Coach Roth described the team's immediate response:
"All of our guys ran around him, rallied, and said, 'Come on, let's go.' It's a credit to the culture we have here. Our group holds themselves to high values, and that's what we represent for the people of Tasmania."

Other key stats for the JackJumpers included a 34-31 rebounding edge and 42 points scored in the paint compared to Sydney's 32. However, the Kings’ bench contributed significantly, outscoring Tasmania's reserves 33-14.
