Home state to first NBL home: Armstrong set for Cairns reunion

This week has been one of milestones for Tasmania JackJumpers guard Taran Armstrong, who is making his return to the Hungry Jack's NBL after playing overseas.

On Monday night, the Tasmanian product played his first home game in JackJumpers colours, powering his side to a thrilling comeback win over South East Melbourne.

Now, just two days later, the JackJumpers take on the Taipans in Cairns; a place where the Australian Boomers guard started his NBL career and spent two seasons.

"I'm excited to go back [to Cairns] and see some familiar faces," Armstrong said.

"I like playing in that arena as well, so I'm excited [about that too].

"They [Cairns] are a very new-look team since when I was there, which has got a lot of talent, a lot of guys that can shoot and space the floor.

"We're going to have to do a really good job and make sure we're locked in on tendencies and understand what guys like to do [on the floor]."

Armstrong will carry plenty of momentum into Wednesday's Round 2 clash, tallying 19 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and 1 steal against the Phoenix; in a game he will never forget.

"It [Monday's win] was great, and the atmosphere was unmatched," he said.

"It's such a unique and special place to play, and we felt that the fans were great for an up-and-down game.

"But as we started to get rolling and get some cohesion going in the second half, they really rallied behind us, and we used that momentum and were able to close it down."
