RECENT FORM

The JackJumpers are preparing for a Silverdome ‘slugfest’ against the New Zealand Breakers, and the long-awaited return of dynamo guard Ben Ayre.

The JackJumpers and Breakers have a level playing record of 12 wins apiece, with the Tasmanians defeating the Kiwis in their last encounter in Round Five.

But Coach Scott Roth said the Breakers are a different team, with their superstar import Parker Jackson-Cartwright having now returned from injury.

“They’re going to be tough and physical,” Roth said. “Sam Mennenga is a problem, and now (Parker) Jackson-Cartwright’s back and they can cause a lot of different problems for us.

“We’ve had a lot of wars against them in the last two years, just slugfest kind of deals with them, and I’m sure it’s going to be another one up there in the Silverdome.”

In good news for the locals, the JackJumpers are set to welcome Ben Ayre back, who has been out this season with a hip flexor injury.

Sadly, the team will hit the floor without American import David DJ Johnson, who will be out for three weeks after straining his calf in the team’s last Silverdome game.

The team’s new tall Ben Gold will also be out for three weeks to rehab a heel injury, missing the chance to face off against his home country.

Roth said his team will have to be “top of our game” for the matchup in Launceston, which could be perfectly timed to fix the team’s 2-9 record in the Silverdome.
