The Tasmania JackJumpers are thrilled to announce the signing of dynamic NBA G League wing David Johnson on a one-year contract.

“We’re very excited to bring DJ to Tasmania. He’s got strong instincts, high basketball IQ, great ability to run the floor and be an on-court leader” Chief Operating Officer, Darren Smith said.

“He’s very athletic and dynamic, a strong shooter. I think the fans will love what he brings and how he goes about it” he said.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, 6’4 Johnson was taken at pick 47 in the second round of the 2021 NBA draft by the Toronto Raptors.

The 6’4 played two NBA games and spent the 2021 and 2022 season playing with the Raptors G League affiliate, Raptors 905, before signing with the Memphis Hustle from 2023.

24-year-old Johnson has averaged 16.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in the 2024-25 G-League season with the Hustle, shooting at 47.1%.

“Coming to Tasmania is a bit of a circuit breaker for me, some fresh air.

“I’ve heard only great things about the fans and the state so I’m really excited to play for something bigger than myself and represent Tasmania. Really feels like the fans are a huge part of the team. I can’t wait to get down there and defend the island” Johnson said.

Johnson will arrive in Tasmania in early August ahead of the JackJumpers NBL26 preseason.
