The Tasmania JackJumpers longest serving player Will Magnay has this morning been voted the team’s Captain for Hungry Jack’s NBL27.
Serving alongside Magnay as loyal Vice Captains are Josh Bannan and Taran Armstrong.
This is Magnay’s second consecutive season as Captain of the JackJumpers, following in the footsteps of the club’s inaugural Captain Clint Steindl who served for four years.
The Playing Group met this morning to cast their vote, with Coach Scott Roth announcing the team’s leadership group before training this morning.
When announcing the Captain and Vices to the playing group this morning, Roth said: “It’s always a great honour to represent your team, and to do it in our environment it is quite special in the amount of territory we cover across the state and the importance that you have across the board.”
In receiving his appointment, Captain Will Magnay told the team: “Thank you, it’s a massive honour, especially with the character of this group to be voted in, it’s really special for me. I play for my family and Tasmania, and now to be out in front playing for you guys as well it’s super special to me. Thank you so much, and I’ll do what I can to lead us the right way, and I have amazing help in Taran and JB.”
Magnay is the only rostered player who has been with the JackJumpers since day one, with the OG loved by his teammates and fans alike.
Magnay is a four-time club Defensive Player of the Year, and has the club’s all-time highest rebounds at 532, and all-time highest blocks at 150.
He’s earned the respect of the playing group too, crowned Players Player at the club’s 2023-24 MVP Awards.
Bannan joined the JackJumpers in NBL26, and had a stellar first season that included several club records and being crowned the team’s NBL26 Most Valuable Player.
Armstrong is also writing a new chapter in the JackJumpers record books, as the first born and bred Tasmanian to sign as a rostered Player with the JackJumpers.
